Dear Customer,
Since July 2007 the price
of wheat flour, specifically quality high protein spring wheat flour, has
risen a shocking 255% to over $50.00 per 100 lbs. Although we adjusted our
prices several months ago when flour was $18.00 per 100 lbs, these new
flour prices are forcing all manufactures of baked goods to increase
prices in order to remain in business.
Several factors have
affected the price of flour, mainly; farmers are planting com for ethanol
instead of planting wheat creating a shortage. Another reason is the
United States allows other countries including China, The United Arab
Emirates, Japan, and Brazil, to purchase all the wheat they are willing to
pay for at whatever price the market demands, leaving U.S. mills to battle
for U.S. grown grains. Now the weak U.S. dollar is making it much easier
for other countries to outbid our own mills. At the same time many of the
worlds top grain exporters have pulled their harvests off the world market
in order to keep their own supplies healthy. Many other factors contribute
to this upward price spiral resulting in the U.S. consumer having to pay
much more for any grain based product (cereal, breads, pizza crusts etc.)
sold here.
In the next few days we
will be buying a new flour contract. This will determine our new pricing
and reserve flour into the summer months. This summer when the new wheat
crop is harvested hopefully price levels will stabilize or begin to
decline somewhat. At that time we can readjust our prices to reflect the
current market. The new pricing will go into effect March 17th, 2008 and
is reflective only of the additional cost of flour. We apologize for any
inconvenience; however it is absolutely necessary for us to make these
price changes in order to remain in business.
